POLICE officers will return to the small screen tonight in pursuit of a gang of masked men who held terrified young children at knife point in their bedroom.

Detective Sergeant Gary Tattersall is one of the investigating officers to appear in the second episode of ITV documentary The Brighton Police which returns tonight at 9pm.

Cameras followed as he and his team track down the culprits of the “incredibly serious” attack at a home in Woodingdean and pursue a suspect thought to have orchestrated the attack from behind bars.

Originally from Portsmouth, he joined the force in 1992 and was based in Worthing for 10 years where he is best known for his role in finding the remains of bomb expert Mark Manning.

Two years after the father was killed, DS Tattersall gained the trust of a suspect in the case who revealed where he was buried, leading to the culprits being put behind bars.

He said: "That was a really interesting case and an why I love this job - you never know what is going to happen from one minute to the next.
"It's challenging, interesting and exciting.

"A breakthrough like that is really important on the case because it helps to give the family closure."

Meanwhile Detective Constable Elaine Welsh and other officers try to search for another attacker after a woman reports an attempted rape by a stranger.
