A YEAR ago today beloved teenager Shana Grice was taken from her family and friends.

The Argus was inundated with tributes to the "sweet, beautiful angel" at the time of her death and we honour her memory today.

She was known as "Mama Shana" - the mum of her friendship group.

Yesterday close friend Sian Best, 20, of Hove, said: "I've thought a lot about what I've wanted to say about Shana but anyone who knew her knew she was indescribable.

"Over the last year I've come to meet more of her family and even more of her friends they are now people I call second family.

"I think I speak for many people when I say we were so lucky to know her.

"But what I cannot describe is the amount of pride I have in Shana's family and her boyfriend Ash and his family. They really are not only a credit to themselves but a credit to Shana.

"A saying I always remind myself of is 'You are the company you keep''. And to be in your company, Shana, made everyone a better person.

"Goodbyes are not forever goodbyes are not the end they simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again.

"Love you Mumma Shana."

Last year her long-term boyfriend Ashley Cook get a tattoo in her memory and spoke of the life they had planned together.

He described her as kind, caring and the nicest person anyone could wish to meet.

Her parents Sharon Grice and Richard Green, of Hove, remembered her as a " beautiful, bright and bubbly, kind-natured 19-year-old who brought joy to all those who knew her and loved her."

In a statement read to Lewes Crown Court at the culmination of her murderer's trial, her mother said: "She was very popular throughout childhood, she made friends easily and was never grumpy. She loved life and was always very enthusiastic.

“She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandparents with whom she had a very strong relationship. Shana was responsible and mature beyond her years. She loved to make plans and always accomplished what she set out to do. She adored going on holiday and was always planning her next trip.

"All we have now are our memories of our beautiful daughter. We constantly look at photos and videos to keep her with us every day."

Richard said: "We will miss her laugh and her ability to light up a room in only the way she could.

"We miss her giggles and laughter, the jokes we shared and having her to hold and share our future lives together as a family."
