A MAN arrested for carrying an eight-inch knife on the seafront claims he used it to eat with.
Simon Davies was reported to police by a member of the public after allegedly being seen with the kitchen knife on Brighton seafront on August 5.
The 38-year-old, of no fixed address, denied possession of a blade in a public place when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard it was in the magistrates’ jurisdiction to hear the case but Davies elected for a trial by jury at crown court which will take place next month.
He described himself as a “freeman of the land”, the court heard, which is a term used to describe those who believe they are only bound by laws they consent to.
Pleading not guilty, he told the court: “I often carry it, it’s to feed me.”
