LEGEND is a word that is often over used – but not in the case of Albion captain Bruno.

The 36-year-old Spanish right-back has earned his place in Seagulls folklore during his five years at the club.

He has now been rewarded with a giant mural of his crowned head on the side of Brighton ice cream shop Gelato Gusto.

The shop is in Gardner Street but the mural is on its side wall in Church Street.

It’s proof the Premier League fever which has swept the city since Albion kicked off their debut season last month is in no danger of waning.

In the mural, Bruno is wearing an El Capitan T-shirt, which is sold in the club’s megastore.

Artist Richard Wilson, of High Rise Murals, a London-based art company, is the man behind the work.

He said: “I am really proud to have done this because Bruno is a hero to everyone who supports Albion and people who live in the city.

“To be able to put something on a wall that connects people is really special.”

The project is part of Sky Sports channel branding, with all 20 Premier League teams having a mural of a member of their club in the home town.

Bruno’s will feature before and during advertisement breaks in Albion matches which are broadcast on Sky Sports. It will be on display for one month.

Christina Pavlou, head of production at High Rise Murals, said: “It is really nice to do something a bit different for the community.

“Bruno is iconic among fans so I think it will be brilliant for the city.”

Spaniard Bruno has been through it all with the club and his team-mates since he was signed by the club from Valencia in 2012.

A crucial squad member under all the managers he has played for, from Gus Poyet to Chris Hughton, Bruno along with his team-mates missed out on Premier League promotion three times before last season’s glory.

He also played his part in Albion’s first Premier League victory on Saturday, a 3-1 win against West Brom.

Albion fan Marcus Morris, of Hollingbury, says Bruno deserves the mural.

Marcus, 28, said: “He is a legend of the club and a top class player.

“He’s the king. It is well deserved for him.

“It is great for the city with everyone getting so involved in football since Albion have been doing so well. The mural looks amazing, so why not have it up? It is brilliant.”
