AN unsigned singer-songwriter became an overnight sensation when her album cover was shown to millions at the launch of the new iPhone.

Emma Blackery, 25, who lives in Brighton, said she was stunned when the cover art of her DIY release featured during the presentation at Apple headquarters in California on Tuesday night.

Although the Essex born singer has 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube she is not signed to a record label.

Her track Magnetised was shown up on screen during the presentation by Apple’s senior vice president Eddie Cue.

She told the BBC: “Embarrassingly, I was sitting in bed by myself when it happened.

“Then I suddenly got bombarded by about 20 texts in 10 seconds, all from different people saying, ‘Emma are you watching the Apple Keynote?’ I went on there to watch and there’s was just my face behind Eddie Cue.

“I had no idea it was going to happen – I just freaked out.

“So I did what any sort of millennial what do and went straight to Twitter and gave my gut reaction.”

She took to Twitter and told her followers simply: “IM FREAKINGGGGG.”

She told the BBC: “I was completely shocked.

“But I wish I had perhaps reserved myself and been a bit more eloquent and polite.”

Emma said Apple had been in contact to ask if the company could use her artwork as part of their marketing. However, representatives did not expand on the request.

In the hours after, she had thousands more followers on her social media sites including a host of celebrities including socialite Paris Hilton.

She now hopes to use the exposure to kick-start her career.

She added that the song Apple featured was about “a guy that I was really, really crazy about, but he had a girlfriend.”

She added: “But now I’m on Apple events - so it sucks to be him.”

However, she is still waiting for a further contact from Apple.

She said: “They’re like my silent knights in shining armour at the moment.”

Emma started releasing music in her late teens and her first EP, Human Behaviour, was released in early 2012.

Her second EP, Distance, came out in 2013 and she has largely used her YouTube channel to promote her work.

This year she also launched her own channel on video website Vevo. She currently has 658,000 Twitter followers.
