Young Albion goalkeeper Bailey Vose is growing up fast on loan.

And his Eastbourne Borough boss Jamie Howell is delighted about it.

Vose has picked up two recent man-of-the-match awards for the improving Vanarama National League south outfit.

Howell never had any doubts about his technical level.

But he has been pleased to see Vose calling the shots in his own penlaty area as he tackles men’s football.

Howell told The Argus: “He has been brilliant.

“In the first two games, he has come from academy football and I’m thinking he is technically good but not really a man at the moment.

“To be fair, in recent games he has just been superb.

“I had Dan Lincoln all last year at Bognor and he was a brilliant goalkeeper.

“It gives you ten or 15 points and it gives you confidence to the back four. I think Bailey is doing that.

“For a young man he has done superbly well. He is taking control – organisation, leadership.

“He looks like a man in goal and gives communication, which is what you need.

“Sometimes goalkeepers just stay quiet and don’t take control.”

The Seagulls are keeping close tabs on Vose, 19, and loaned him out to Dartford and Concord last term after he signed his first professional deal.

Howell added: “He works at the Albion during the week.

“But he has got such a great attitude when he comes into us training as well. He is getting the best of both worlds.

“He does some brilliant work with the staff at the Albion, which we are very grateful for.

“But Dean Lightwood here have done a lot of really good work there as well.”

Will Hendon (hamstring) misses what Howell suspects will be a tricky FA Cup tie at home to Carshalton.

He said: “They are doing quite well in their league. We will have to be at our best."
