ALBION’S club historian Tim Carder will be giving a special talk on the club’s history later this month.

Mr Carder will be at The Keep archives, in Wollards Way, Brighton, just a stone’s throw from the Amex, for the illustrated talk.

As part of the History of Brighton and Hove Albion event he will chart the club’s rise from the early days before the First World War.

He will cover the highs and lows of the Goldstone years and the battle to find a new home.

The talk will also feature a display of original archive material, including programmes, old postcards and newspaper cuttings.

The talk is being held to celebrate Albion’s promotion to the Premier League.

It is the first time the club has been in the top flight of English football for 34 years and the only time the club has featured in the Premier League.

The talk is also expected to touch on Albion’s visit to Wembley for the 1983 FA Cup final against Manchester United.

Kate Elms, from The Keep, said: “Tim Carder will be looking back at the club’s history in this illustrated talk.

“Using documents and ephemera held at The Keep, he will trace the story, from the club’s early days, through the highs and lows of the Goldstone years to the battle to find a permanent home for the club, and beyond.

“The talk is a must for football fans and local historians alike

“A selection of original material from our archives will be on display on the day.”

Mr Carder, Albion’s official historian, has spent many years compiling the club’s history and has written on everything from the end of the Goldstone to the players and members of staff who went off to fight in both world wars.

The talk will take place on Wednesday, September 27, from 5.30pm until 6.30pm.

Tickets are £3 and can be paid for on the door.

However, advance booking is recommended as numbers will be limited.
