MORE than 9,000 brave runners descended on a farm to take on an extreme obstacle course.

The Tough Mudder event took place at Holmbush Farm near Horsham on Saturday.

Entrants could choose to do either a five mile or 12 mile course designed to drag them out of their comfort zones by testing their physical strength, stamina, and mental grit.

There were no podiums, winners, or clocks to race against as organisers say the event was not about how fast people cross the finish line.

Instead it was a challenge that emphasised teamwork, friendship and accomplishing something difficult.

A spokeswoman for the organisers said they were pleased with the turnout for both the Tough Mudder full and half challenges.

She said: “There was a great atmosphere and Tough Mudder’s key values of teamwork and camaraderie were on show throughout the day.

“People who tackle Tough Mudder events are looking to challenge themselves and have fun with their friends.

“As a non-competitive event, Tough Mudder provides the perfect setting to test yourself both mentally and physically while also looking out for your fellow Mudders on the course.”

Tough Mudder will be back at Holmbush Farm at the weekend for the final event of the season.

Tickets are still available at toughmudder.co.uk or on the day.
