Michael Burgess has signed his first contract with Sussex.
The wicketkeeper-batsmen has agreed a one-year deal through to the end of the 2018 season.
Burgess, who has been with the county on a non-contract basis this season, had a run in the side when Ben Brown was injured early in the year and is playing in the current Championship fixture at Durham.
Burgess said: “I’m delighted. It’s been a really busy summer. I’ve spent a lot of time playing in the seconds and I was really happy to get my chance in the first team.
“Luckily, I took that chance and I’m really grateful to Sussex for giving me the opportunity to play down here.”
Keith Greenfield, Sussex director of cricket, added: “Michael took his opportunities at the start of year impressively and showed that he could perform very well in both red and white ball cricket.
“We look forward to helping him develop further and have a successful career with Sussex.”
Epsom-born Burgess, 23, was previously with Leicestershire.
He scored 222 runs at an average of 44.4 in six Championship innings earlier in the season as well as keeping wicket tidily.
