YOUNGSTERS got to dress up as firemen and women at a special open day.

Newhaven’s Munchkins parent and toddler group visited the town’s fire station last weekend.

They were given a guided tour and were allowed to try on uniforms and helmets.

Firefighters then took the group outside to use one of the high pressure hoses on an old car which is used for training.

They had a group photo taken in front of the station’s fire engine before staff answered questions and offered safety advice.

Firefighters then gave the children colouring books and activities to work on at home.

The group meets at the Summerhayes Centre, Marshall Lane, Newhaven, every Thursday from 10am to noon.

Each week costs £1 per parent, 20p per child and under three months are free.
