AN elderly passenger died after the car she was travelling in came off the road and crashed into a field.
The 90-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene of the accident in Marklye Lane, Rushlake Green, near Heathfield.
The 88-year-old driver of the red Vauxhall Tigra was seriously hurt and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
The air ambulance was called to the the incident, which is thought to have happened between midday and 1.15pm yesterday.
The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the scene and the road was closed for several hours.
Anyone who saw what happened or who noticed the Tigra shortly before the crash is asked to contact police.
