ALBION captain Bruno has hit out at the late penalty awarded against him by referee Michael Oliver in the draw with Everton at the Amex.

The Spaniard believes the decision was “soft” and has questioned whether it would have been given at the other end.

Bruno was penalised and cautioned for catching Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the neck with an elbow from a free-kick.

Wayne Rooney converted the 90th-minute spot-kick to cancel out Anthony Knockaert’s 82nd-minute goal for Albion.

Bruno said: “They (referees) are trying to do their best.

“I think it was really soft, every single decision during the game.

“I would like to know if it was in the other box if he would give a penalty or not.

“We got promoted last season, but I think it should be the same for every team.

“I was protecting myself and my space.

“The ref gave a penalty because he saw something.”

Boss Chris Hughton had no complaints but felt Albion could have been awarded a penalty in the first half, when Lewis Dunk’s shot was blocked by Michael Keane.

“I certainly think some would have given it,” Hughton said.

“It was a shot that was certainly goalbound.

“It hit his thigh or somewhere and has gone up on to his arm.

“So it has hit his hand and there are definitely some referees that would have given it, because of the nature of the chance.”
