WORK which has closed a main road for several weeks is progressing well.

Southern Water is resurfacing North Street in Brighton and is not due to finish until the middle of November.

Buses travelling between Churchill Square and the Old Steine are being diverted via the seafront and West Street.

Engineers have almost finished resurfacing the road between King Place and Bond Street.

They will begin phase three of the works, between Bond Street and just before the East Street roundabout, tomorrow.

As with the other two phases of work, the surface of the road will be planed off and its condition assessed to see if any necessary remedial work needs to be done.

New surfacing will then be laid and left to settle.

Southern Water says the work is being done in close liaison with Brighton and Hove City Council and is on schedule to finish on time.

Details of the diversions and access routes during the work can be found on the dedicated project web page southernwater.co.uk/northstreet.

Southern Water’s eight-week programme of road improvements on North Street, Brighton, is well underway. We will be resurfacing the road between King Place and Bond Street by the end of this week.

Phase 3 of the works, between Bond Street and just before the East Street roundabout, is expected to start on 17 October, with traffic diversions being put up the day before.

As with the other two phases of work, the surface of the road will be planed off and its condition will be assessed and any necessary remedial works carried out, before new tarmac is laid and left to cure.

It is expected that the works will be completed and the road opened again by mid-November.

Details of the diversion and access routes for all three phases can be found on Southern Water’s dedicated project web page: www.southernwater.co.uk/northstreet.

The work to resurface the full width of the road from the Clock Tower down to just before the East Street roundabout is being done in close liaison with Brighton and Hove City Council.

Buses continue to be diverted while the works are carried out. Please check with individual bus companies for further details of any changes to routes and timetables.
