RESTAURANTS are lining up to join food delivery services in the city after seeing a considerable rise in orders over the past year.

Figures released this week by Deliveroo show the number of orders received in Brighton and Hove increased by 141 per cent in the last 12 months, with a 45 per cent rise in the number of restaurants joining the scheme.

Local delivery company Dinner 2 Go has also reported similar success after doubling the orders it received over the past year.

Dan Warne, UK managing director of Deliveroo, said: “Everyone at Deliveroo is delighted that our rapid growth in Brighton means customers have more choice, restaurants are able to increase their revenue and riders have opportunity to choose well-paid, flexible work.

“Deliveroo’s fundraising will mean greater growth and new innovations.

“More restaurants will be able to deliver their food direct to people’s homes or offices and there will be more work available for people who want to be riders and fit their work around their life rather than trying to fit life around their work.”

Deliveroo has managed to reduce its average delivery time for meals by nearly 20 per cent since coming online in January.

The company has also grown its partnerships with restaurants in Brighton over the past year and is now working with 188 businesses.

A spokeswoman for Sabai Thai in St James’s Street, Brighton, said: “Our time with Deliveroo so far has been great.

“This partnership has been much more successful than the previous two delivery companies we have used. We couldn’t be happier.”

Dinner 2 Go owner Sohail Rahim told The Argus that its orders have doubled in the past year.

Mr Rahim said: “At first we thought Deliveroo’s growth would have negatively affected us but it hasn’t.

“It has actually increased our orders too. Deliveroo being in the city has opened up a new market for deliveries.

“People realise they can order food from restaurants now for a couple of extra pounds.

“Some people actually make the choice to use us because the money will then stay in Brighton.”
