BRIGHTON and Hove Albion and its official charity teamed up with anti-racism campaign Show Racism the Red Card for an education event at the AMEX.

Pupils from eight local primary schools attended the anti-racism day and they were joined by Albion first team manager Chris Hughton and Ini Umotong and Laura Rafferty, who both play for the club’s FA Women’s Super League 2 team.

Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism educational charity which uses the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society.

Much of its work focuses on the delivery of educational workshops to young people and adults in their schools, workplaces and at events held in stadiums across the county.

It is an approach that is very similar to the work Albion in the Community does in local schools and the AITC schools team was only too pleased to host the recent Show Racism the Red Card visit.

Ged Grebby, chief executive at Show Racism the Red Card, said: “The campaign has a great relationship with Brighton and Hove Albion FC and they have continued to show fantastic support.

“Our team always enjoys working the club and Albion in the Community, who we know do some vital work in the local area.

“Racism continues to be an issue in our society with many people suffering abuse each day. We believe that education is key in challenging racism in society.

“By working with the next generation in schools we can have a big impact towards eradicating racism and creating a better world in the future.”

The education event was the latest example of the collaborative work done by the club, AITC and Show Racism the Red Card.

Hughton and Liam Rosenior feature in the Show Racism the Red Card Hall of Fame while Tomer Hemed and Beram Kayal appeared at a racism event.
