A councillor has praised a historic pub being Grade II listed.

The Dyke Pub in Dyke Road, Brighton, was listed by Historic England last week after an application from campaign group Save The Dyke Pub.

Councillor Julie Cattell, lead member for planning at the council, said: “We began the process of protecting this fantastic building by serving a Building Preservation Notice (BPN) on the pub while Historic England considered its listing application.

“We’re delighted they have upheld our BPN and agreed the building is of special architectural or historic interest as an early and high quality example of a reformed public house in Tudor Revival style.”

The pub was served a BPN in June after a backlash from the Save The Dyke Pub group when the original bar was taken out to be refitted.
