THREE men attempted to steal an ATM on Monday after driving into the shop’s front facade.
Police are appealing for witnesses after a white BMW X5 series drove into the Co-operative in Battle Road, St Leonards, just before 11pm.
At least three people, suspected to be men, wearing balaclavas and dark clothing got out of the car, believed to have been stolen from Hertfordshire, and walked into the shop with baseball bats and a metal pole.
Damage was caused to the shop and the suspects attempted, but failed, to remove the free standing ATM machine within.
The three left the shop in a different white car, believed to be a sports model. Staff were not hurt.
Any witnesses of the incident, or people who recognise the cars in question can report online or by calling 101, quoting reference 1445 of 06/11. Alternatively, visit the Crimestoppers website or contact the independent charity on 0800 555 111.
