A NEW mural is being unveiled today (Friday) on Hanover House in Queen’s Road, Brighton.
It is the latest part of Stiles Harold Williams’ campaign against unauthorised graffiti and tagging in the city.
SHW commissioned a large mural for the side of Hanover House to enhance the look and feel of the adjoining Brighthelm Gardens as well as replace unsightly tagging and unauthorised graffiti.
The painting - by artist Sarah Gillings – has a theme of wildflowers and honey bees, highly appropriate for the community-run butterfly gardens it will inhabit.
Three years ago she was also commissioned to paint a mural on the alleyway connecting North Road and Gloucester Road in the centre of the city’s North Laine, a site previously covered with racist symbols, swearing and other offensive and inappropriate vandalism.
SHW has been at the forefront of tackling the issue of tagging and unauthorised graffiti in the city, a problem it feels may be spiralling out of control.
