Pascal Gross felt Albion were closer to the win than Stoke on a dramatic night at the Amex.
But the German believed the Seagulls showed good spirit to twice come back for a 2-2 draw.
Gross scored his third goal of the season to drag them level at 1-1.
Jose Izquierdo struck on the hour for the second leveller.
Albion pushed from then on but were unable to make it back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time.
Gross said: “We take the point because twice the other team were leading.
“But I think we let in some easy goals, which can happen.
“We came back well and it is a good point but I think we were a little bit nearer to winning than Stoke.
“That was my feeling on the pitch.
“We showed great team spirit but we can win games like this.”
