DISABLED residents in a block of council flats are being forced to stay inside because the building’s only lift has been broken for eight weeks.
Elderly and disabled people in Philip Court in The Drive, Hove, have been without access to the lift since the last week in September.
One elderly man in the block, who asked not to be named, said Brighton and Hove City Council told him at the time that fixing the lift was a “priority”.
The carer of a man living in the block who needs to use a mobility scooter, who also asked to remain anonymous, said: “It is beyond unacceptable.
“He has not been able to leave his flat.
“People have had to miss family gatherings and doctors’ appointments.
“These disabled residents are prisoners in their own homes.”
The city council has apologised for the delay in fixing the broken lift.
A spokesman said: “Our lift maintenance contractor Liftec Ltd is awaiting delivery of a new motor and has advised that the lift should be operational within the next two weeks.
“We will continue to keep residents updated.”
