VOLUNTEER crew member Simon Hodgson celebrated 30 years with the RNLI this week.

He received a long service award from area lifesaving manager Allan Head.

Simon, who is an emergency care support worker in his day job, is currently an all-weather boat crew member and tractor driver when volunteering for the RNLI.

He has many amazing memories from his time at Hastings including countless service calls, attending the Lewes floods in 2000 and receiving the institution’s “Thanks On Vellum” for a service call in 2006 that saw him helm the inshore lifeboat in treacherous conditions to try and save the life of a swimmer at St Leonards.
