A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was stopped by police with more than £1,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine, a court heard.

The teenager was spotted by a member of the public at The Level in Brighton who called police.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was carrying a small bag on him containing the drugs when police stopped him on May 26.

Officers found the two Class A substances – heroin and crack cocaine – along with £1,000 in cash, Worthing Youth Court was told.

They arrested and charged him with possession of the drugs and intent to supply heroin.

David Packer, prosecuting, told the court the value of the drugs was £1,050.

Officers also found the 16-year-old in possession of two mobile phones. When searching the phones, police found messages relating to drugs.

The boy, who was supported by his mother, held her hand the entire time he was in court.

In August police searched his home address and the boy was found to be in possession of eight wraps of MDMA along with cannabis, which is a Class B drug.

He was charged with possession and intent to supply the Class A MDMA and possession of the cannabis on August 20.

The boy pleaded guilty to the two counts of possession and intent to supply heroin and MDMA, and also to possession of the crack cocaine and cannabis.

His case was adjourned until December 14 when he will be sentenced.

The Level had a £2.2 million redevelopment in 2013 but has long been a drugs hotspot.

Despite the best efforts of Brighton and Hove City Council it has became a hangout for street drinkers and drug

Earlier this year, police carried out a three-day drug crackdown at The Level.

Officers made 11 arrests – the youngest being two 18-year-old men.

Two boys, aged 17 and 15, had their details taken by officers after being caught smoking cannabis.
