THIS is the moment a brazen thief stole a surgeon’s bike from his shed.

Sandra Da Silva took Tom Geyton’s £700 racing bike at his home in Sillwood Road, Brighton, on Tuesday morning, leaving the trainee surgeon shocked by her actions.

A neighbour’s CCTV camera captured the break-in.

Firstly, Da Silva, 34, attempts to have a snoop in each of the three sheds in the alleyway.

She starts with the middle door, but has no luck in breaking entry.

Da Silva, wearing what appears to be a parka coat with a fur hood, moves on to another shed which is unlocked and peaks around, but perhaps finds nothing of value as she shuts the door and walks out of shot.

However, she makes a return, fiddling with the lock on Mr Geyton's shed door.

After more than one minute of trying to bust through, she eventually gets her way and makes off with the bike.

Mr Geyton, who works at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, said Da Silva appeared a mere five minutes after his girlfriend locked the shed and left for work.

Da Silva, of St John’s Mount in Mount Pleasant, Brighton, yesterday pleaded guilty to the charge of burglary other than dwelling at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.

Her case was sent to Crown Court on December 6, where she will be sentenced alongside another charge.

The court heard that Da Silva has struggled with the use of Class A drugs, and she has a recent history of offending, including shoplifting and possession of a bladed article.

She has been remanded in custody until her sentencing because the crime breached her suspended sentence.

However, in her police interview, the thief refused to tell officers where the bike is.

Mr Geyton, 28, said: “I’ve had the bike for just over a year - it was a shock to have it stolen.

“My girlfriend had only just locked the shed five minutes before the woman broke in as well.

“I don’t have a clue how she managed to get in.”

He added that the reason he contacted The Argus was to try and make others aware of the thief if his bike is gone for good.

“I just hope this can help to raise awareness,” he said.

This is not the first time Mr Geyton has fallen foul of a thief.

He said: “Someone stole my bike when I lived in Bristol, before I moved to Brighton, just six hours after I bought it, but there was no CCTV and not enough evidence to catch them.

“At least this bike lasted longer than the first one.”

The bicycle is a white 13 Intrinsic Alpha road bike. It has black handle grips, and the right one is loose. Mr Geyton’s bike also has Boardman Road Pro pedals, a white and black bottle cage, a Continental Gatorskin rear tyre and a black and blue saddle bag with an inner tube inside.
