A FAULTY set of traffic lights at a pedestrian crossing on the A27 have led to a miserable start to the day for commuters.
Motorists saw red at the lights near to the burger bar on the westbound carriageway close to the Kingston roundabout, near Lewes, from 6.40am.
Traffic was queued back as far as Wilmington due to the issue which saw the lights turn red automatically 10 seconds after going green.
Highways England were alerted to the problem by driver Dan Ellis on Twitter at 7.25am.
They replied to say an engineer had been requested to attend.
A spokesman at Highways England told The Argus in a statement: "We're sorry for the delays caused.
"We are aware of the issue and endeavour to amend this by the end of today."
At 1.43pm, Highways England tweeted to say the issue had been rectified.
