SEW Fabulous Community Interest Company, based in Brighton’s Open Market, has secured funding for new courses for the unemployed and those on very low wages.

The courses will be taking place from January at the Sew Fabulous sewing studio and another location in Whitehawk.

The funding has come from Sussex Community Foundation and Awards for All, England.

The aims are:

  • to provide sewing classes and workshops to the local community.
  • to promote the reuse and recycling of fabrics and clothing as an antidote to fast fashion.
  • to be a positive force for change in the city and to promote an inclusive environment for all.

Its outreach programme aims to provide affordable, accessible beginners sewing class for adults who are experiencing social and economic disadvantage.

It wants the adults to develop life skills and confidence through the provision of a structured learning programme and support.
