CHRISTMAS spirit filled one of the city’s most beautiful churches last night.

Young and old joined together and sang their hearts out at the annual Argus Appeal Christmas Carol Concert.

Newsreader and Argus Appeal patron Nicholas Owen once again hosted proceedings in All Saints Church in The Drive, Hove.

It kicked off at 7pm with musical director Stella Hull leading the audience through many of our much loved carols including O Little Town of Bethlehem, Silent Night and Hark The Herald Angels Sing.

Brighton Orpheus Choir and Orpheus Young Singers were in fine voice as was the choir of All Saints Church.

Sussex Flutes and the Hangleton Band brought the carols to life while soprano Shona Knight dazzled with a number of solos.

She was ably support by pianist Nicola Grunberg and organist Jon Rawles.

Money raised from the event will be split between The Martlets Hospice in Hove and The Argus Appeal.

The concert was in memory of Derek Hunnisett, the former chairman of the Hanningtons department who died in 2011.

Mr Hunnisett was a keen supporter of The Argus Appeal and his widow, Ellen, continues to support the event.

Writing in the programme, she said: “Our family Christmas always begins here in this lovely church with the wonderful choirs, musicians and speakers.

“I am sure this will be an evening to remember.

“On behalf of my family, I am pleased to continue to support both these worthwhile local charities and wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”

Argus editor Arron Hendy said: “Well done to everyone involved in organising the wonderful event. Great fun was had by all.”
