A FULL-TIME carer and a manager at Gatwick are spending their evenings raising money for a children’s charity

Dickie White and Trevor Hall have raised more than £1,600 for Rockinghorse.

Dickie, 39, who lives in Old Steine, Brighton, and his friend Trevor Hall, who lives in Bevendean, have been going around the streets of Brighton, giving children the chance to meet Santa on his sleigh.

They welcome donations and the money will go to the Rockinghorse, the charity arm of the Royal Alexandra children’s hospital in Brighton.

This is the second year of the event and due to the success they had last year in just four nights, it was decided to extend it to 12 nights.

Last year £1,200 was raised for the Tourette’s Society.

This year they have already raised £400 more – and with seven days still to go.

The sleigh started at B&Q in Brighton on December 7 and in the following days went through Sainsbury’s in Hove, the Royal Pavilion Gardens, Brighton Palace Pier and to the Gala Bingo Clubs.

The sleigh was made by Nick Stanford from Superior Loft and Extensions in Woodingdean with a truck and trailer donated by Pez Property.

In the coming days, Santa’s Sleigh will travel through Lancing, Bevendean, Moulsecoomb Community Leisure Centre, Woodingdean Primary School and will finish at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Brighton on December 20.

Explaining the reason for choosing Rockinghorse as their charity, Dickie said: “The last night of last year we ended up outside the Royal Alexandra and all of the children were waving out the window to Santa which really touched us.

“We haven’t even gone to the streets that we went to last year so I reckon we should be able to raise over £3,000 at the very least.”

Trevor said he is delighted to put a smile on children’s face by letting them meet Santa.

He said: “It has been great to see so many people come down to the events and more than last year given the extra days.

“To raise money for a charity such as Rockinghorse has been fantastic and makes it all worthwhile.”

The events will have loud music and times may vary and can occasionally go on to 9pm as the team will never leave a waiting child without them seeing Santa.

The latest project is part of their bid to hold feelgood events for residents.

They formed Dickie Nick and Cheesecake Productions to supply disco lights, a bubble machine, smoke machine and other attractions.
