A DANCE and drama school has qualified for the Dance World Cup.

Rox School of Dancing and Drama in Hove will compete against members of dance school from 47 countries in Spain in June next year.

There will be fierce competition from other countries such as Brazil, India, Russia and USA as 5,000 competitors are due to take part in the 11th year of the contest.

The pressure will be on ti impress as groups from Great Britain have won the contest twice before.

“Thousands of schools send videos in and hope to be chosen so this makes us all very proud.

“It would be incredible to come back with a medal.”

The school is based at Brighton and Hove High Junior School in Radinden Manor Road, Hove.

It will take a group of 27 dancers out to Sitges, near Barcelona, and they will perform two quartets, one solo and a group dance.

All 27 dancers will perform in a group number to a dance based on Alice in Wonderland. The finals take place from June 22 to July 1.

Miss Amison is eager for the competition to get started.

She said: “We can’t wait to get out there.

“We are staying at a hotel near the competition in Sitges which should be great.”

Rox was founded in 1991 and moved to the current premises in 2016.

The school provided dancers for the Theatre Royal Brighton pantomimes from 2004 to 2010.
