AN MP is backing a programme aimed at helping young people with learning difficulties get a job.
Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd visited the town’s hospital to meet those taking part in the Project Search internship programme.
The scheme gives people a chance to experience a working environment while still getting help and support.
East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has been given an award in recognition of the project’s 100 per cent success in achieving paid employment for those who took part in the programme last year.
Mr Lloyd said: “It was a pleasure to visit Project Search at the hospital.
“They’ve been running this initiative for five years and it’s all about training young people with learning disabilities to get a job.
“It’s a major success in Eastbourne which is just brilliant.”
Students work in non-clinical areas such as housekeeping, the post room and administration.
