A RENOWNED ice skating show is returning to Brighton this week – 75 years after its premiere.

Holiday on Ice has become a cherished annual fixture in the city, wowing audiences with its blend of accomplished choreography, popular music and colourful light show.

This year’s production, based on the theme of time, runs from Friday to January 14 at the Brighton Centre.

It is the show’s only UK appearance this year.

A spokesperson for the venue said that the production aims to celebrate “the best and most memorable times of our lives”.

They said: “The show is a photo album with snapshots of memories we all share in common – falling in love, a first kiss, dancing until dawn, a memorable night on the town, a great vacation, a thrilling adventure, and everyone’s wish to slow down time as it goes by too fast.”

This year’s show is directed and choreographed by David Liu, the Taiwanese former competitive figure skater who represented his country at three Winter Olympics.

He will take to the stage accompanied by a range of other professional dancers from across the world.

The evocative costumes on display in the show are designed by Michael Sharpe, who has created outfits for celebrities including The Spice Girls, Keira Knightley, Jennifer Lopez and The Pet Shop Boys.

For the first time, Holiday on Ice will feature familiar songs from artists such as Coldplay, Ellie Goulding, Seal and Michael Buble.

Since its creation more than seven decades ago, the production has become the best-known brand of entertainment on ice.

Emery Gilbert founded the show in 1943 after designing a portable ice rink tour around the US.

For a spell in the 1980s, it was owned by Disney and went under the name Disney’s World of Ice.

It has since attracted roughly 328 million visitors worldwide.

lHoliday on Ice: Time runs at Brighton Centre from Friday to January 14.

Tickets are on sale now and prices start at £15 for children and £25 for adults.
