SINGERS are being invited to take part in a sleepover with a difference.

The Arms of Sleep is being performed at the Brighton Festival later this year.

Audiences will be given a chance to encounter a unique dream-like and immersive night of music and stories, sound and images.

Guests will each be given a comfortable bed and spend the night surrounded by sound and shadows, drifting between sleep and wakefulness.

The music has been written by Brighton-based composer Orlando Gough, Jonathan Baker and Helen Chadwick.

The project, created by directors Sian Croose and Jonathan Baker, is a co-production between the festival, Norwich choir the Voice It was a critical success when it premiered in Norwich last May.

Ms Croose said: ‘We would like to welcome absolutely anyone over 16 with a desire to sing to join the choir.

“There are no auditions and all rehearsals are conducted in such a way that no previous experience of singing or music is required.”

Choir members will need to be available for up to three performances in May.

Rehearsal dates start from January 23.

Brighton Festival choral conductor Kirsty Martin, who is musical director for several choirs in the city, will be co-running some of the rehearsals.

A members’ fee of £20 will be required to join the choir.

However there is a no-obligation taster session for anyone who thinks they may be interested in joining the choir.

This takes place at the Basement, 24 Kensington Street, Brighton, on January 17 from 7.30pm until 9.30pm.
