CARLTON Hill Primary School winter fair raised more than £3,000 for much-needed school resources.

The PTA’s annual event attracted children, parents and the community, drawing some 400 people throughout the day.

A large amount of the money raised at the fair was from the raffle, which included prizes such as family theatre tickets from The Old Market and the Brighton Centre, £100 cash and meals at local restaurants such as 1909 Brighton.

In a further bonus to the school, First Base and Patron Capital, owners of the former Amex House site in Edward Street, pledged to match all funds raised by raffle ticket sales, bringing the final total to more than £1,000.

All proceeds from the fair will go towards necessary resources for the children of Carlton Hill Primary School, including funding school trips in the new year.

The school falls within one of Brighton and Hove’s poorest areas so all the money raised makes a significant impact on the school, its staff and, most importantly, its pupils.

Lucina Mitchell, project director at First Base, said: “It was great for us to meet local residents at the winter fair and spread festive cheer.

“We are always looking for ways to positively contribute to the local community and are delighted to have had this opportunity to make a difference for the pupils of Carlton Hill Primary School.”

With plans for the Edward Street redevelopment being formulated, First Base and Patron Capital have tried to engage with the nearby community and listen to their thoughts, feedback and ambitions for the area.

Initial responses have led to the inclusion of a high-quality public areas in the new development as well as moves to create a vibrant, active environment.

Residents, including parents and local businesses, expressed an interest in the proposed plans and it was revealed that the buildings will range between three and eight storeys – lower than the previous “Wedding Cake” structure.

First Base and Patron Capital have acquired the former Amex House site to provide homes, workspace and jobs to support Brighton and Hove’s economy.

First Base provides buildings and places adaptable to the needs of communities and businesses.
