A 75-YEAR-OLD sports lover is urging people to sign up to become volunteers at this year’s Brighton Marathon.

Janet Roberts from Littlehampton has helped out since 2011 and says the atmosphere over the weekend is very special.

She said: “All the team - volunteers, management, team leaders - are such a supportive, helpful team that to me it feels like a yearly family gathering.

“It is even more special when we meet new volunteers.

“We all work hard in our huge array of roles to make the Brighton Marathon weekend the success it is and have fun along the way.”

Event director Tom Naylor said: “Every year we are truly humbled by the amount of time and energy our volunteers are prepared to give to help make the Brighton Marathon weekend happen.

“We couldn’t do it without them.

“In addition, American Express is continuing its sponsorship of the weekend for the next two years.”

The company will also help with the volunteer programme.

Registration to help out at the event, which runs from April 13-15, is now open.

The weekend includes the marathon itself, mini mile races and a 10km run.

There are a wide variety of volunteer roles available, including ahelping at the start and finish lines.

They will also help with marshalling, handing out water and watching out for people needing help.
