A FIVE-year-old boy remains in a critical condition following the crash that killed his baby sister.

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses and any help that can aid their investigation into the crash at Newpound Common, near Wisborough Green.

A Mazda 3 and a Vauxhall Corsa collided on the B2133 at about 4.17pm on Wednesday last week, injuring five people,

The family in the Mazda were from Pulborough.

The seven-month-old girl was taken to Worthing Hospital, where she died later that evening.

Her five-year-old brother was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

A 27-year-old woman, understood to be their mother, suffered serious leg injuries and was also taken to St George’s Hospital with spinal and shoulder injuries, and has since been discharged. All three were passengers in the Mazda.

The driver, a 31-year-old man understood to be the father remains at St George’s Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the Corsa, a 36-year-old man, was taken to Worthing Hospital with serious chest injuries and has since been discharged.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who saw either of the vehicles in the area shortly before the collision to report it online or phone 101, quoting Operation Gilford.

Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who may have dash cam footage of either of the vehicles.

The road was closed until about 10pm while rescue, recovery and collision investigation work took place.

Residents were horrified by the tragedy and told The Argus they had long-running concerns about the road.

Sarah Farthing said: “Terrible news. Rest in peace little one.”

Becky Jukes said: “This is beyond sad. I hope the little lad recovers along with all others injured. My love and thoughts to the family and all those involved.”
