A BMW burst into flames as its owners drove onto the A23.

Dozens of people called West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service when they spotted the red car burning in a layby tonight.

Two men had to escape from the car when it caught fire as they pulled onto the northbound carriageway between Pyecombe and Muddleswood at the Henfield turn-off.

Emergency services were called at 7.38pm. Sussex Police shut the left-hand lane while firefighters from Brighton and Keymer put out the flames.

The fire was out by 8.09pm. The car was completely destroyed.

And if someone did stop to take pictures for the Argus, and got shunted, caused another crash, or got injured or killed, would the Argus willingly pay the compensation? How irresponsible that throw-away request is.

I'm just happy and amazed that this story didnt involve any other vehicles, injury or death - all too common when BMW drivers are involved..

Calm down! The key word in that "throwaway request" is "Did". No-one will have done it at the behest of the Argus because...er...the incident had already happened. In any case, nothing in the report says that people should not act safely and responsibly. Taking the "blame culture" a bit far here aren't we??

Well at least no one was injured, and, looking on the bright side, the driver got to do an interview for HOT CAR magazine!
