NEARLY £30,000 has been raised to help a singer suffering from cancer through her treatment.

Abi Flynn, 28, from Hove, was diagnosed with blood cancer Hodgkin’s lymphoma in September 2016.

A JustGiving page was set up for Abi, who is well known on the music circuit, after she was forced to give up singing for a living.

Now a staggering £28,500 pounds has been raised to support her financially through her treatment.

Speaking to The Argus, Abi said the money had allowed her to pay for privately funded drugs as a last attempt to shrink the tumour with conventional medicine after it persisted despite four rounds of chemotherapy.

She said: “I am blown away and beyond grateful. Every time you see an act of kindness of that stature it makes you believe you can heal because you have the power of everyone behind you.

“When I had the drugs that this money is paying for, as it was going in it felt like it was a little bit of everyone’s generosity.

“Strangers have donated £1,000 at a time, which is incredible and they leave themselves anonymous.

“It’s just unbelievable.”

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer common in younger people.

She had an 11cm tumour in her chest cavity, which pressed up against her lung when she sang.

The fundraising page was set up in late 2016.

Family and friends have run marathons and organised gigs to raise money and the effort is still going strong with £15,000 being raised in the last five days. The ultimate aim is to raise £40,000.

Abi, originally from Worthing, said: “The crazy thing is this cancer is one of the most curable cancers there is.

“But they have never seen a case like this as it is so unusual to not be cured completely from the first round of chemotherapy. I just have to keep doing what I can.”
