ALBION forward Glenn Murray will be in tomorrow’s matchday squad.

The 34-year-old and his wife Stacey are under investigation by HMRC over an alleged £1.1 million tax evasion.

Officers arrested the couple on Tuesday morning on suspicion of evading income tax and VAT and cheating the public revenue.

The couple were released under investigation, but HMRC seized computers and business and personal records from their Brighton home.

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton revealed in his press conference yesterday that Murray has trained with the squad and will travel to Middlesbrough tomorrow.

Hughton said: “Glenn trained today and will be in the squad for Saturday.”

The club declined to make an official statement regarding Murray’s situation.

When The Argus contacted the striker’s agent, James Tunnicliffe, he told us: “It’s a personal case at the moment.

“We won’t be making any further comments.

“We are not going to comment.

“We have spoken to the club.

“It’s a personal matter.”

The Sun broke the news of Murray’s arrest on Wednesday. He has been writing a column for the newspaper in recent months.

When The Argus contacted HMRC for a comment, it would not give details on how long the investigation would take or how long the pair would be under investigation.

An HMRC spokesman said: “A husband and wife have been arrested as part of an HMRC investigation into a suspected £1.1 million tax fraud.”

Hitman Murray, who married Stacey in 2014, has scored seven goals for Albion this season in what is his second spell at the club.

He helped Gus Poyet’s side win promotion to the Championship in 2011 before signing for arch rivals Crystal Palace on a free transfer.

Murray then returned on loan at the start of last season and made the move permanent in January 2017.

He was the club’s leading goalscorer in their historic Premier League promotion-winning campaign.

Hughton will be hoping his forward will reproduce the prowess he showed against Palace in the FA Cup earlier this month, when he scored a late winner.

The Seagulls face Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Kick-off at the Riverside Stadium is at 3pm.
