AN ELDERLY expatriate attacked a man then assaulted the policeman sent to arrest him.
Seventy-two year old Michael Irish, who lives in the picturesque town of Cassis in the south of France assaulted Chris Mckenzie in Ditchling Road, Brighton on Sunday.
Irish then went on to assault female police officer PC Ventham.
Appearing at Brighton Magistrates' Court on Monday Irish pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating.
He was ordered to pay £300 compensation to each of his victims.
