WORTHING is set for a major economic boost this week with the town’s half marathon taking place on Sunday.

More than 2000 entrants can expect to explore the most scenic parts of Worthing beginning in Marine Parade, navigating around the town before returning along the seafront for several miles.

Local children between the ages of five and 10 will also be able to take part in a children’s specific race along with a 3km for aged 11 upwards.

A team of NHS workers from Worthing are pulling on their running shoes for the race.

The intrepid runners from Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust will be taking part.

Hannah Clyfton-Myers, Rebecca Freestone and Michael Rutherford all work for the Trust’s specialist perinatal mental health service, which supports mums experiencing severe mental health issues during pregnancy or up to a year after giving birth.

They will be joined on the half marathon by Tina Favier from Coastal Care West Sussex, who works closely with the team, and her husband, Ben.

Other members of the specialist perinatal mental health team will be lining the route to cheer their colleagues on.

Hannah said: “We’re running to raise awareness of perinatal mental health and hopefully help to reduce the stigma that surrounds it.

“Having a new baby is a happy time, but for the 15 per cent of women who experience post-natal depression it can also be confusing and scary.”
