A JOURNALIST who hails from Worthing has been shortlisted for a top award.

Liam Morgan, who attended Durrington High School before gaining a first-class honours degree in Sports Journalism, now writes for insidethegames.biz, the world’s number one Olympic news website.

Since joining the Buckinghamshire-based sports news organisation in 2015, Liam has reported on some of the world’s top sporting events.

He’s now been nominated in the young sports writer category at the prestigious British Sports Journalism Awards.

Winners and highly commended entries will be revealed at the 41st staging of the awards, held by the Sports Journalists’ Association, on February 26 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.

Liam has travelled around the world on assignments since he started working for insidethegames.biz.

Last year’s travels included covering the International Olympic Committee Session in Lima, Peru and World Championships in four sports.

He’s currently at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

“It is great to be nominated with so many other young journalists when the standard of entries was so high,” said 25-year-old Morgan.

“I am delighted. I’d like to thank editor Duncan Mackay and managing director Sarah Bowron for allowing me to cover some of the best sporting events in the world.”

The winner of the young sports writer category will receive The Ian Wooldridge Trophy, dedicated to the former Daily Mail journalist who died of cancer in 2007.

Morgan graduated from Southampton Solent University in 2014.
