THE KFC crisis that swept the country last week left chicken lovers clucking.

Its Brighton branches, and many across Sussex, were closed to customers after a cock-up by their new delivery partner DHL.

But one quick-thinking man saw a gap in the market and made a quick quid on some coveted bargain buckets from one of the fast food chain’s restaurants in Eastbourne.

Martin Godden, of Moulsecoomb Way in Brighton, sold four of the tubs at a mouthwatering £100 each as fried chicken lovers parted with chunks of cash to get their fix.

Martin, a 30-year-old self-employed ceiling fixer, advertised the goods on Facebook Marketplace.

He said: “I saw people on the news going crazy because KFC had no chicken.

“As a laugh I thought I would put up a joke sell post on Facebook.

“Most people saw it for what it was.

“But a few people got hold of me saying they would seriously pay £100 for a bucket.

“Luckily I have a friend who works in KFC, so I knew which restaurants had chicken.”

Martin said he is “already a salesman to a degree” as he prices up his own jobs – but he did not have to use any of his charm to secure these deals.

He delivered to two people in Brighton, One in Lewes and one in Hove to bank his cool £400.

“They were genuinely desperate,” Martin said.

“To be honest, when I was delivering the orders, I thought it might be a set up.

“Maybe people wouldn’t answer the door or something.

“But nope, people wanted the orders and happily parted with their money.

“I kept asking them “are you sure you want to pay £100 for it?

“They didn’t seem to care about the price.”
