JUNIOR students from seven primary schools will come together next month for the second Lewes Big Dance Gala.

Staged by Lewes Old Grammar School (Logs), the event will bring students from Barcombe, Hamsey, Ringmer, St Pancras, South Malling, and Wallands primary schools together to rehearse and compete alongside Logs’ Morley House in a show- stopping day of dance.

Organised in collaboration with Universal Dance, the initiative will involve four children in Years 5 and 6 taking part in a street and contemporary dance workshop.

Pupils from Logs senior school and sixth form will also be on hand to coach them on their moves.

Once they have completed their choreography, students will then perform their routines to an audience at Lewes Town Hall.

Jessica Lloyd, dance teacher at Logs and co-founder of Universal Dance, said: “Last year’s inaugural Big Dance Gala was a huge success.

“It’s really rewarding to bring together pupils from different local primary schools for an exciting, inspirational day of dance.

“The calibre of their performances is first class and it’s our pleasure to give them the opportunity to showcase their skills to people from all across Lewes.”

Carrie Whyte, headteacher at Logs Morley House, said: “We’re thrilled to bring together many of Lewes’s local primary schools for this special event, as well as our own junior and senior school.

“Music and dance are a universal language and we’re really looking forward to seeing the children’s routines.’

Thirty five children from six primary schools took part in the inaugural Lewes Big Dance Gala in spring last year, with pupils being put through their paces to learn street and contemporary dance before taking part in a creative dance workshop.

This year’s Lewes Big Dance is set to be even bigger, and will take place from 9.30am on Tuesday, March 13, until 3.30pm.

The performance will be held as part of the Logs Senior School Dance Gala on Wednesday, March 14, at 7.15pm.

Tickets can be bought by calling Nicki Prior at Lewes Old Grammar School on 01273 472634.
