FIRE crews are tackling a large blaze that has spread over 22 hectares of heathland.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called just before 11.30am this morning to reports of a fire spreading in Iping Common, Midhurst.

The fire service said the land was "well alight" before crews arrived on the scene.

Eight fire engines were sent to deal with the blaze as well as other specialist appliances.

Firefighters are still on the scene attempting to stop the fire spreading further and put out the flames.

The cause of the blaze is currently unknown but an investigation is likely to take place, according to the fire service.

No injuries have been reported at the scene.
