A REMEMBRANCE parade marshal has been remembered for being at the heart of his local sporting community.

Tony Adfield, from Henfield, died at the age of 87 on March 2, following several weeks of illness.

Tony was a well-known village resident who had served as president of Henfield Cricket Club and was a long-term member of the Sussex County FA.

He became chairman of the association for the 1972/73 season.

Tony was made president of the cricket club in 2011, having played for the side in the 1950s.

He also had connections with Henfield Football Club, regularly watching matches, as well as the West Sussex Football League.

Tony served as the treasurer and registration secretary of the Horsham and District Football Association.

He became a remembrance parade marshal in the late 1990s, speaking at the village’s memorial event each year until 2009.

As a lover of theatre, Tony was also an active member of Henfield Theatre Company.

His funeral will be held at St Peter’s Church in Henfield next Wednesday at 11.30am.
