A CARING collection of people from around Worthing have been announced as finalists for an award recognising their stellar support and work in the community.

Sussex Beds called out last month for nominations of outstanding people in the area who go the extra mile to make a difference.

And staff at the Worthing-based store are now pleased to announce the finalists for the accolade, who are now in the running to win a new bed worth up to £2,000.

Steve Pickering, MD of Sussex Beds, said: “Our awards are a chance to celebrate all those who quietly support and champion our communities, and offer them a great night’s sleep in return.

“We are now pleased to announce those in the running for our second Wonderful Award.

“We were really impressed by their stories of dedication and commitment but it’s now down to the public to decide, so get voting!”

The finalists are:

Pauline Heryet - Pauline has for over 25 years been a huge support to people with learning difficulties in the Worthing area.

Through her hard work she has been a leading light in building and running Worthing Mencap Local, and set up Sussex Seals - a club that has grown into the sport activity group ‘Out There West Sussex’.

Paul Francis - Paul has been a very active member of Sussex Search and Rescue (SusSAR) since 2012. Members are 100 per cent volunteers, receiving no expenses and are on call 24 hours, every day throughout the year.

Paul is a team leader and last year won a SusSAR award for attending most call outs!

Karen Sellors - Karen provides emotional and physical support for the wellbeing of customers and their families at the Guild Care Centre in Worthing.

She is committed to providing a supportive environment which allows everyone to enjoy and be involved with the daily activities which she designs around their needs.

By doing this she enables people to feel supported and thrive, while reducing their social isolation.

To vote, email wonderfulawards@pmwcom.co.uk with the name of the person you think should win in the subject heading.

Voting closes at midnight on Sunday April 8.
