A NEW £270,000 bar has opened in Hove.

MP Peter Kyle was on hand to give the seal of approval to The George Street Tap on George Street.

It offers a collection of craft beers in town, fun features and cocktails.

Transformation of the old Slug and Lettuce has created seven new jobs and the bar opens from 9am.

Peter Kyle, MP for Hove and Portslade, said: “George Street is a great place to eat, drink and shop but I want it to become even more of a destination place for locals and tourists.

“The renovation and reinvention of the old Slug and Lettuce into The George Street Tap is a great leap forward for achieving this and I hope everyone will pop in when they come to visit Hove.”

Manager Valter Santos is delighted with the new bar.

He said: “Hove has got a real treat in store – they’re definitely going to be impressed with everything we have to offer.

“We’re something different and whether you’re the new breed of pub-breakfast lover or just love a chic night out, we really do have everything to make everyone welcome.”

It serves 18 craft beers with brews such as Brewdog, 360 degrees and Signal from Croydon.

New glass sliding doors have been installed along the width of the building creating a unique open plan summer space.

There are nine plasmas showing live sport from Sky and BT Sport.

It offers DJ party music at weekends to board games, themed quizzes, open mic and classic movie nights.

There is a crafty cocktail school every Wednesday with bartenders showing off their mixology, taking just long enough for customers to indulge in 241 cocktails.

It offers 15 different gins with vodkas, rums and whiskeys and even Tequila is sipped not shot.

It also sells sourdough pizzas, tapas sharers and desserts.
