TWO men needed hospital treatment after a brawl broke out inside a pub.

Police believe glass bottle was used in the fight.

Violence erupted at the Bat and Ball Pub in Ditchling Road, Brighton, shortly after 8pm.

Three men were involved in the fight, which then spilled outside the pub.

Two men were treated at Royal Sussex County Hospital for cuts, bruises and a head injury.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene and they cordoned off the pub.

A police spokeswoman said: “There was a lot of broken glass so it is thought a bottle has been involved but no other weapons I’m aware of.”

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of an assault at or near the Bat and Ball at approximately 8pm on Monday.

“One ambulance crew attended the scene and assessed and treated two patients for injuries including a head injury.

“The patient with the head injury was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital for further treatment.”

A witness, Marcos Cohen, 35, of Brighton, was walkBy Hsin-Yi Lo Reporter hsin-yi.lo@theargus.co.uk ing to the bus stop in Oxford Street when he saw police attending the scene.

He said: “Two police cars were stationed close to the pub, they taped off the pub and it appeared they were looking for something.

“One male police officer headed towards The Level.

“Three police officers and another officer were outside the pub.

“There were five police officers, two police cars and an ambulance.

“I wasn’t sure what was happening but it seemed quite serious.”

A staff member at the Bat and Ball, who declined to be named, told The Argus she knew nothing about the trouble.

She said: “I wasn’t working on Monday night so I haven’t heard anything.

“We always keep an eye out when customers get a bit rowdy.

“When we spot trouble, or potential trouble, we ask the customers to leave and not to come back in.

“We always take a quick response.

“In the past there has been incidents where our area has been cordoned off even though nothing happened inside our pub.”
