ALBION may be giving their fans a sweat as their quest for league survival burns down to the wire.

But the supporters are certainly having a good time watching the drama unfold.

Matchday experiences at the Amex rank top of the league table for fans in a recent poll.

Almost 42,000 fans from all 20 clubs in the league took part in the survey, carried out by research agency Populus on behalf of the Premier League.

It was based on a number aspects, including how well the club is run, atmosphere, stewarding and matchday programmes.

The Seagulls soared above their competition in those categories, and impressed with their welcome upon arrival, the club’s staff and cleanliness of the Amex.

They were scored out of 100 on a points system, with Albion bagging an overall figure of 81.6.

The average score was 72.1.

In a statement, the Premier League said: “The club performs well on all measures, and especially on perceptions of how well-run the club is, overall favourability, match atmosphere and investment in facilities.

“As a result, the club has the highest score in the league.”

Fans were also asked how positive or negative they feel towards their club.

Seventy-eight per cent of Albion supporters said they feel “very positive” about their team – compared to a 48 per cent average in the league.

That may rise even higher if the club manage to clinch Premier League safety in their debut season in the top flight.

None of the supporters said they feel negative about Chris Hughton’s team, whereas 12 per cent of other sides’ fan bases felt negative emotions towards them.

Albion chief executive Paul Barber commended the club’s staff for their role in the achievement.

He said: “As a club we are absolutely delighted with the results of the Premier League’s Matchday Fan Experience Survey for 2017/18.

“To top the survey is a superb achievement for any club, but even more so for one in its first-ever season in the Premier League.

“It has been achieved by every single staff member playing their part – getting the stadium prepared, the matchday experience itself, and the post-match operations.

“On behalf of the chairman, I would like to thank our staff for their continued hard work and professionalism, and with two more home fixtures this season, our aim is to maintain those incredibly high standards to keep our focus on the ultimate aim, which is securing our Premier League status for next season.”
