MORE than 350 raffle prizes are up for grabs to those who want to help preserve a piece of history.

The Save Madeira Terrace campaign is raising funds to contribute to the restoration of the Grade II-listed arches along Brighton’s seafront.

The arches, which stretch 850 metres along the coastline, have fallen into disrepair over the years.

The campaign, which is mostly raising money through crowdfunding, has raised over £460,000 since September 2017, with last year’s raffle making nearly £17,000. Their efforts are part of a £24 million plan to bring a new lease of life to the arches.

Jax Atkins, one of the campaign’s founders, said: “The raffle is a big part of raising money for the renovation of Madeira Terraces.

“It was started by three residents who felt that not enough was being done to raise money.

“We hope to raise even more money this time.”

There are more than 350 prizes up for grabs so far and many more are promised.

One is a tour and tasting voucher for two, contributed by the Ridgeview Vineyard on Ditchling Common.

An acupuncture session, a flight for two from Brighton City Airport taking in Devon and the Isle of Wight, and a family ticket to any Brighton Philharmonic concert have also been pledged pledged for lucky winners.

A number of Brighton and Hove-themed art prints and framed photos are in the mix, as well as jewellery, gift vouchers for restaurants and even a one-year membership to The Gym.

A book of raffle tickets can be purchased for £5 either online or at over 40 outlets in Brighton and Hove such as the Egg & Spoon cafe in St George’s Road or Salt Space in Portland Road.

More are being added every day as businesses, artists and more chip in to help the cause.

Jax added: “The council cannot provide all the money, so we have to pull together, be positive and do what we can.

“We are hoping to reintroduce the longest bric-a-brac market on Madeira Drive next year.”

The goal of the campaign is to restore the first three arches to their original condition, before asking the people of Brighton and Hove how they would like to see them used.

The raffle will be drawn on June 30 at the Bristol Bar in Brighton.
