The annual day devoted to independent record shops will see over 500 exclusive releases heading to a number of Brighton’s numerous record shops, and live performances in Resident and Bella Union record shops, as well as on Duke Street outside of Vinyl revolution. Trade begins at 8am but there is lot of interest for this so head early to avoid missing out on your desired releases, and even to join in the festival atmosphere of the queues.

Hove Plinth

Kings Esplanade, today, 2.30pm

Hove’s answer to the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square, the newly installed plinth will be officially unveiled by Vince Venus on Saturday with its first sculpture, Constellation by Jonathan Wright, a model of the solar system in which the planets have been replaced with some examples of ‘what makes Hove, Hove.’ The opening will feature Hove Plinth Heroes Awards and music from the Swing Ninjas.

Life Model II

Fabrica Gallery, today and tomorrow, 12 to 5pm, fabrica.org.uk

David Shrigley, the guest director of Brighton Festival, is running a follow-up to his Turner prize nominated installation at Fabrica. This second iteration again plays on traditional life drawing classes by replacing the live model with Shrigley’s caricatured sculpture of a nine-foot woman. Participants are invited to observe and draw the model, with the resulting artworks hung up as part of a growing exhibition.

Hove Rugby Club – Men’s First XV playoff

Hove Recreational Ground, today, 3pm

Hove Rugby Club will face off against Old Reigatian in the Level 7 playoff at Hove Rec on Saturday. Kick off for the main event is 3pm, but in the build up the Women’s XVs will play against a set of touring teams, and Gay and Inclusive affiliate club, The Sea Serpents, will play against Hove Men’s 3s. There will be bars and BBQ for spectators to utilise.
